Visions of Australia funds innovative touring exhibitions
The Minister for the Arts and Sport, Senator Rod Kemp, today announced funding of more than $1.2 million to support the development and touring of exhibitions of cultural material, under the latest round of the Australian Government’s Visions of Australia program.
“The Visions of Australia program provides assistance to archives, galleries, libraries, museums and community organisations to develop and tour exhibitions nationally,” Senator Kemp said.
“This round of Visions-funded exhibitions will tour to 91 venues, 61 of those in regional locations.”
This funding round will support the development and touring of exhibitions featuring social history, natural science and innovative craft and design, including:
- Off the Beaten Track: A Journey across the Nation—being developed for tour by the National Motor Museum in South Australia. The centrepiece of the exhibition will be the 1908 Talbot motor car, in which the first crossing of the continent was made. The exhibition will include a visual chronology of the journey through objects and photographs.
- The River: Life on the Murray-Darling—being toured by the Australian National Maritime Museum. It explores the cultural histories of river communities along the Murray-Darling River, Australia’s largest river system. The exhibition will encourage an appreciation of the river system’s role in the lives of inland Australians—and of its finite resources and need for protection. It will bring historical regional collections to a wide audience.
- Luminaries—to be toured by the Jewellers and Metalsmiths Group of Australia, NSW. This exhibition will showcase the most recent work of six artists who have played significant roles in developing contemporary jewellery in Australia over the last 30 years,
