New community interest representative for the Australia Council
The Minister for the Arts and Sport, Senator Rod Kemp, today announced the appointment of Western Australian educationalist Ms Barbara Black to the Australia Council for the Arts.
“I welcome Ms Black as a community interest representative on the council and I am confident she will make a valuable contribution,” Senator Kemp said.
Ms Black is currently the Director of the University of Western Australian Albany Centre, and has previously held positions as lecturer and senior staff development officer at the University of Western Australia (UWA) in Perth.
As senior staff development officer, Ms Black ran a number of programmes for academic and general staff. In her current role she coordinates undergraduate programs for students living in the Albany region of Western Australia.
Ms Black is a member of the UWA Albany Foundation and has belonged to a number of consultative committees for the WA Department of Education and Training. She has also held positions on the executive committee of the Higher Education Research and Development Society of Australasia.
Ms Black has also participated as a ‘Celebrity Book Club’ panel member at the University of Western Australia Perth International Arts Festival for two years running.
The Australia Council is the Australian Government’s principal arts funding body. It encourages the creativity and development of Australian artists and aims to increase access by all Australians to arts and cultural activities.
