Boost for Regional University Sport

The Minister for the Arts and Sport, Senator Rod Kemp, announced funding of $10 million over four years to help support regional University Sport.

“University sport is an important part of the Australian sport system and makes a significant contribution to grassroots sport,” Senator Kemp said.

“This initiative will facilitate opportunities for regional university students to participate in sporting activities and assist in building pathways for university students in regional areas to achieve their high performance aspirations,” Senator Kemp said.

“Regional Australia has produced some outstanding sporting champions in the past and through this initiative the government wants to ensure that those who aspire to follow in their footsteps have every opportunity to do so.”

Senator Kemp said the funding will be provided to Australian University Sport and administered by the Australian Sports Commission.

The Australian Sports Commission will work closely with University Sport to develop appropriate mechanisms and conditions of the support provided to regional university students.
