Australia Council Theatre Board appointment
The Federal Minister for the Arts and Sport, Senator Rod Kemp, today announced the appointment of Ms Pamela Creed, one of Australia 's leading performing arts training experts, to the Australia Council for the Art's Theatre Board.
“Ms Creed's efforts to introduce high level physical and creative training for Australian circus and physical performing artists has helped to realise the vision of our circus and physical theatre community,” Senator Kemp said.
“I am very pleased that Ms Creed is joining the Theatre Board and I am sure she will make a very valuable contribution to the work of the board,” Senator Kemp said.
Ms Creed was largely responsible for establishing the National Institute of Circus Arts over the past six years, and is currently the institute's Director and Chief Executive Officer.
She is a member of the Federation of European Professional Circus Schools and represents Australia as a member of the international partners' network, established by Cirque du Soleil to foster the training of circus instructors who use circus to target youth at risk.
She is also the current Chair of the Australian Roundtable for Arts Training Excellence.
Ms Creed has also contributed to the performing arts sector through her past work as Head of Visual and Performing Arts at Swinburne University of Technology; Head of Performing Arts and “Showbiz” at Prahran TAFE and Head of Drama at Preston TAFE.
In these positions she worked closely with industry and artists to develop new courses and industry specific training partnerships and has facilitated the participation of many young artists in various festivals and events.
The Australia Council is the Australian Government's principal arts funding and advisory body. It encourages the creativity and development of Australian artists and aims to increase access by all Australians to arts and cultural activities.
