Alisa Camplin appointed to Australian Sports Commission board

Olympic gold medallist and world champion aerial skier Alisa Camplin OAM is to join the board of the Australian Sports Commission (ASC), the Minister for the Arts and Sport, Senator George Brandis, announced today.

“Ms Camplin will bring a unique perspective to the ASC board over the next two years,” Senator Brandis said.

“Ms Camplin made the transition from being a national stream gymnast to becoming Australia’s most successful Winter Olympian. As such, she has a good understanding of the national sport system as well as an extensive knowledge of the needs of elite athletes.

“Further, Ms Camplin has demonstrated professional communication and business skills that have led to executive appointments in leading international firms and is a sought after sports commentator. This experience will prove valuable in helping the ASC to communicate and achieve its goals.”

Ms Camplin was the first Australian to win medals at consecutive Winter Olympics—gold in women’s aerial skiing at Salt Lake City in 2002 and bronze at the 2006 games in Turin. During her World Cup career with the Australian Aerial Ski Team she won 12 gold, five silver and four bronze medals.

In addition, Ms Camplin has an ongoing involvement as an athlete’s representative on the board of directors of the Olympic Winter Institute of Australia, which is a partnership between the Australian Institute of Sport and Australian Olympic Committee to ensure the development of elite performances in winter sports by Australian athletes.

Since retiring from international competition in 2006, Ms Camplin has developed her profile as a motivational speaker and resumed her corporate career in information technology and client relations. She is currently a Client Services Executive for IBM Australia and was a Corporate Ambassador for Pricewaterhouse Coopers between 2004 and 2006.
